Couples Intensives
Getting to the heart of what is blocking your relationship from continued growth
Relationships are complicated and no matter how much we love our partner we can find ourselves at a crossroads at some point in the life of the relationship. It can be a very painful and lonely place that may not have an easy answer. Most people who start Couples Intensives feel trapped in a cycle in which their relationship has stalled.
Perhaps you can relate. Are you stuck in negativity and feeling worried about what the future holds, feeling like your relationship is headed toward a cliff and if something doesn't change there's no going back? Has there been infidelity and you are not sure if your relationship can recover? Are there major communication pitfalls that occur around certain subjects?
Intensives can be very useful for busy couples who have difficulty coordinating weekly or biweekly sessions. You will be provided a structured, immersive and focused program that will help thrust you as individuals, and also as partners, on a forward looking path.
Do any of the following scenarios resonate with you?
You are tired of the fighting.
You feel drained by your relationship when it used to be something that gave you energy and made you feel alive.
Sex, if it happens, feels more like a chore rather than something you or your partner is excited about.
There is so much day to day stuff to deal with, it feels impossible to tackle your bigger issues.
The resentment and anger are building every day and sometimes it feels like it has taken over the relationship.
If these sound true for you, I want you to know that you are not alone. We don't get classes in how to have a healthy relationship growing up, so why would you expect to be really good at something that most likely you never studied! It is completely normal for relationships to go through hard times and it is all too common for couples to divorce because the problems feel too insolvable. Getting help with your relationship can be one of the most rewarding acts of self-care you can do for yourself and the benefits can have a REAL trickle-down effect.
Couples Intensives can help you learn how to be the best partners you can be to each other.
It’s possible to feel better. Imagine a life where you could...
Feel heard and understood by your partner and learn to do the same.
Figure out what direction your relationship is going to take.
Jumpstart the healing process when there has been a betrayal.
Get to the heart of the disconnect and conflict so that your intimacy and friendship can prevail once more.
Begin to remove the barriers that leave your relationship feeling stale or toxic.
Building and strengthening what already works and reinforcing that foundation with real tools for when the going gets tough.
Feel secure once again that you and your partner are on the same track.
A Couples Intensive can help you gain a greater understanding of the unhealthy patterns that have developed and talk about them in a way that doesn’t leave you feeling more alone, isolated and hopeless about resolving the subsequent issues. This is an opportunity to feel truly heard by your partner and let your partner know you are hearing them, too. Learn to find your way through difficult feelings and situations and have deeper, more productive conversations.
Start moving towards your ideal life with less stagnation and more clarity in a shortened period of time.
You will get you a roadmap, quite literally a personalized binder with worksheets and information that will guide our work together, and you can take it home with you to use afterwards. This manual can be something you refer to when you hit a bump in the road to help get you back on track.
Do we need to be in crisis in order to benefit from an Intensive?
Absolutely not! It is a gift to oneself and each other when couples come to therapy before any major problems have set in. Maybe you are wanting to take the next step together like moving in, having a baby, or starting a business. Whatever the challenge, doing a couples intensive can help you address insecurities, get over stumbling blocks more quickly, and create more enjoyment and a stronger bond as you set the stage for future transitions. Maybe overall your relationship feels very strong but you have this one issue that you would like to tackle. If so, a 1 or 2 Day Intensive might be right for you.
How Couples Intensives Work
Once it has been decided that the Intensive is appropriate for the two of you, you will complete a series of worksheets that will give me a deeper insight into the issues you are wanting to tackle. Then we will meet for two all-day sessions with a number of breaks, and a variety of learning formats implemented throughout the day. During our work together, I will be your guide, teacher, and role model. Each exercise will have a purpose and will build on one another as we go through the day. I will be there to listen, challenge, and advocate for each of you but first and foremost for your relationship.
If you are interested in doing an intensive, there are some things that you should know before moving forward.
An Intensive has to be something BOTH of you want to do. One partner cannot persuade the other, but rather both of you have to be invested and want to engage in the process. There is work involved, not just over the course of our one or two days together, but initially in completing the paperwork, and then implementing the changes moving forward. Your session guidebook can be something you use when you want to review what you learned or in a pinch.
If there is an untreated substance abuse problem or major mental health illness, or a current, undisclosed affair, then this is not the appropriate venue to address those issues.
If you and your partner are interested in the Intensive process please feel free to reach out for a no-cost consultation to decide if this service is right for you.
